Keigo Shimizu

Keigo Shimizu serves as a member of the advisory board of The Shotokan Times. He is Chief Instructor of Dojo Yamato in Düsseldorf, Germany and works for a German company. Prior to his current positions he was a student of several renowned grand masters, Captain of the Dokkyo University Karate Club, and received a master of economics. He teaches Karate at national and international seminars.

Education and Achievements

1987: Studies of economics at Dokkyo University, Saitama, Japan and member of the Dokkyo University Karate Club. Head coach of the club: Shihan Yoshiharu Osaka (JKA).

1990: Sensei Tatsuya Naka becomes head coach of Dokkyo University Karate Club. Training for two years under Naka Sensei.

  • Captain (shusho) of the club in 4th year of university
  • Winner Kumite individual at JKA Nagano Prefecture Championship
  • Joint training with Sensei Koichiro Okuma at Dokkyo University Karate Club

1992: Graduated from Dokkyo University and 2nd place team Kumite at JKA All Japan Championship. During university, participation at several other championships:

  • JKA Student League,
  • JKF Student League
  • JKA Tokyo Championships
  • JKA All Japan Championship.

1992-1993: Training at “Taishijuku”, the private Dojo of Tatsuya Naka

1993-1994: Studies of German at Goethe Institute, Düsseldorf, Germany

1994-1999: Employment at a company in Japan. Due to work commitments no Karate training during this time.

1999: Move to Germany and restart of Karate under Shihan Hideo Ochi. Due to work commitments only occasional training.

2007 – today: Fully active in Karate again.

2014 – today: Chief instructor at Dojo Yamato, Düsseldorf, Germany.

2014 – today: Instructor at national and international Karate
