Today, we would like to show you a very interesting way of makiwara training conveyed to us by Dr. Wolf Herbert from the SKIF tokushima. The central concept is called irimi.
Herbert explains: “This is not a static (on the spot), but dynamic way to tackle the makiwara. You start from an open-handed, very relaxed position and thrust your whole body into the punch (irimi). It is also a good way to check if you make a correct fist and joint alignment on impact. Recommended for the advanced makiwara-friend.”
