Don’t we love all the intellectual and mythic comments of our Japanese Karate Sensei?
Waza towa Mu kara shozuru shunkanteki Wa no Geijutsu
A Waza is a Harmony of Art arising instantaneously from Nothingness
Japanese Karate Senseis love words like harmony, art, nothingness. This is rooted in their religious background of Shinto and Buddhism.
After Gichin Funakoshi imported Karate to the mainland, he and his karate students tried to establish Karate as Budo as soon as possible. Everybody knows that Funakoshi changed a lot of words in spelling and pronounce to root karate in Budo. This was not enough. It was necessary to connect karate to the Japanese budo spirit.
